VR glasses

Meta Quest 2 is a virtual reality (VR) headset developed by Meta Platforms. It first appeared in production on September 13, 2020.

As with its predecessor, the Oculus Quest, the Quest 2 can work as a standalone headset with an Android-based internal operating system, or with Oculus Rift-compatible VR software running on a desktop computer.

It’s an upgrade to the original Oculus Quest with a similar design, but much lighter (503g). It’s also updated with internal specs, a higher resolution screen, Oculus Touch controllers, and an improved element. In order to use the device services, you will need to authenticate with a Facebook account.

Its design is similar to the original Oculus Quest, but we also see some innovations. The black cloth exterior of the device has been replaced with white colored plastic and a black face pad, making the fit more comfortable. The controller’s elastic strap has been replaced with a fabric material.

The Quest 2 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform, which is derived from the Snapdragon 865. It is designed for VR and AR reality devices. Explore every corner of their virtual world with a 360° spherical view that captures the scene in vivid detail. Has 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM – compared to 2 GB of the first generation model.

The first-generation Quest’s dual OLED displays have been replaced by a single, fast-switching LCD panel with a per-eye resolution of 1832×1920 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The screen already uses striped subpixels. This layout improves image clarity by reducing the Screen Door effect. The Screen Door effect is the appearance of thin, dark lines or a mesh image caused by the spaces between pixels on a screen or projected image.

The display refresh rate was locked to 72 Hz by software when running the image, and the 90 Hz mode was limited to the home zone as an experimental option.

A software update in November 2020 allowed games to run in 90Hz mode. And in April 2021, an update added experimental support for 120 Hz mode in games.

Quest 2 runs on an Android-based operating system. On first activation, a smartphone running the Meta Quest app must be used.

An update in February 2021 added support for up to three additional accounts with the ability to authenticate to a single Quest 2 device, allowing them to share purchased apps between them. System software version 28 in April 2021 introduced experimental Air Link wireless streaming. And in July 2021, the Ar function was also experimentally added.

Includes third-generation Oculus Touch controllers whose design was influenced by the original Oculus Rift controller. Also compared to the previous version, the duration of the element has been increased by four times.

Quest 2 has support for all games and applications made for the first generation model. The glasses also support Quest Link, which allows the device to use Oculus Rift-compatible software with a computer. You can connect the VR glasses to a PC and play supported games using the glasses with very powerful graphics.

In April 2021, a software update added “Air Link” as an experimental feature. It allows streaming games from PC over Wi-Fi. The glasses have stereo speakers and you can listen to high-quality, clear sound even without headphones.
